Botswana authorities have reiterated the crucial importance of information, technology, and education in fuelling economic prosperity and have urged collaboration among stakeholders to achieve this goal.

Addressing attendees at the Huawei Telecom Congress 2024 in Botswana's capital Gaborone, Minister of Communications, Knowledge, and Technology, Thulagano Merafe Segokgo stressed the need for a unified commitment from stakeholders to leverage technology for societal advancement.

Segokgo stated that Botswana is actively pursuing a digital transformation and fostering a shift in mindset. This agenda is focused on integrating and promoting the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) across all sectors of the economy, Xinhua news agency reports.

The principal objective is to make ICTs ubiquitous and essential tools, transcending specific sectors and becoming integral to all economic activities, the minister went on to add.

Botswana's strategic approach underscores its dedication to leveraging technology as a catalyst for fostering innovation, enhancing efficiency, and promoting sustainable development throughout its entire economic sphere, Segokgo continued.

Furthermore, managing director of Huawei Technologies Botswana, David Zhang said the organisation is committed to enhancing the capabilities of its marketing and service systems through the optimisation of processes and information technology tools.

"Huawei is pleased to welcome more partners to support the digital and intelligent transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises to achieve shared growth in the distribution and commercial markets," Zhang stated.

He also urged stakeholders to collaborate by sharing insights and establishing new partnerships that will play a crucial role in shaping the future of telecommunications.
